My name is Carmen Moody and I am the Director of Protection Services. I oversee child protection services, family services, and family support services throughout the region. My primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of all children (under the age of 16) in our jurisdiction. This is accomplished by a staff of 4 Protection Supervisors and their staff in the agency’s 6 branch offices: Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Kenora, Atikokan, and Fort Frances.
Child protection services are provided through a number of different activities including child abuse investigations, court work, providing practical help to families who are having difficulty caring for their children, locating family members for children who need care, and finding specialized help for children who have been affected by family trauma. Although we are mandated under the Child and Family Services Act to investigate child abuse and neglect, we make every attempt to strengthen families by offering in-home support, counseling, education, and advocacy.
Each of our branch offices works closely with its respective community. We rely on our community partners and the dedication of our staff to help families and children in Northwestern Ontario.
